Main Door Vastu Direction
The main door is where energy enters your home, so its direction sets the tone for the whole house. North, east, and north-east facing entrances are considered the most auspicious.
Beyond direction, the exact pada (segment) of the entrance matters, along with a clean, well-lit, obstruction-free threshold. Even a less ideal entrance can be improved with the right remedies rather than structural change.
Why the main door is the most important placement
The main door is where a home draws in its energy, which is why Vastu treats it as the single most important element. The door's direction and its exact position along the wall (its pada) set the tone for the entire home. This is why two homes facing the same direction can score very differently — the difference is often the pada the door falls in.
The most auspicious entrance padas include Mukhya (N3) and Bhallat (N4) in the north, Jayant (E3) and Indra (E4) in the east, Vitatha (S3) and Grihrakshita (S4) in the south, and Sugriva (W3) and Pushpdanta (W4) in the west. Each carries a specific benefit, from wealth to fame to a smooth, happy life.
Making the entrance auspicious
Keep the entrance clean, well-lit and welcoming, with a clear approach and no obstructions directly in front of the door. A raised threshold (a small step or door sill) is considered auspicious and helps retain positive energy. The door is best made of quality material, opening inwards and clockwise, without creaks or damage.
Avoid a main door that directly faces another door in a straight line, a staircase descending towards it, a toilet, or a sharp corner pointing at it. Shoe racks, dustbins and clutter are best kept out of the immediate entrance. Auspicious symbols, a nameplate and a threshold decoration all support the entrance.
Confirming your door's pada
Because the main door matters so much, confirming which pada it falls in is one of the highest-value checks you can do. Uploading your floor plan and setting the facing direction lets the analysis pinpoint your door's pada and tell you whether it is auspicious as-is or would benefit from a threshold, colour or symbolic remedy.
